Concha Surgery (Turbinate Reduction)

The structures called concha are the organs that take an active role in the regulation of respiratory function by warming and humidifying the inhaled air from the nose.

The most common clinical condition is concha hypertrophy (i.e. growth), which almost always occurs in the inferior concha. Although this inferior concha hypertrophy originates often from soft tissue, the bone hypertrophy or hypertrophy of both structures may also occur.

Concha disorders often cause nasal congestion in the patient. During the rhinoplasty, the enlarged conchas are reduced.

However, if there are underlying allergic causes of concha hypertrophy, post-operative hypertrophy may be seen again.
